What to Expect
Welcome to Metro Eye Care and thank you for choosing us to provide you with your eye care needs. Please take the time to review the following information in regard to your upcoming appointment.
What to Bring:
- Insurance card(s)
- Referral form from your primary care provider (if required by your insurance)
- List of medications
- Current eyeglass and/or contact lens prescription
As a new patient, you will need to fill out paperwork. Please arrive 15 minutes before your appointment time to do so. You may also print out the paperwork from the link below and bring them along with you to your appointment.
Please allow approximately one hour for your appointment. The length of time may vary depending on your individual needs, as additional testing may be necessary. During your visit, we will most likely dilate your eyes, or widen the pupil, with the use of dilating drops. This allows the doctor to observe the back of the eye. After your visit, your reading/close-up vision can remain blurred for a few hours and you may be more sensitive to light.
The refraction is the vision portion of your exam. It is the test to see if you may need an updated prescription for eyeglasses and/or contact lenses. If you wear contact lenses, you must update your prescription once a year. Your glasses prescription can remain unchanged for 1 to 2 years, and you may request the refraction at your discretion. The refraction is no longer covered by most medical insurances and will be an out of pocket cost due at the end of your visit.
Any patients under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. If this is not possible, please provide a signed letter authorizing medical treatment.
