
Dr David Gerstenfeld received his Bachelors in Science from Duke University and then attended the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he received the highest academic achievement in the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. After an internship in internal medicine at Morristown Memorial Hospital he completed a residency in ophthalmology at the Albert Einstein University Hospitals system. For the last 34 years Dr Gerstenfeld was the managing partner and owner of Island Eye Surgery Specialists in Staten Island, NY where he performed thousands of cataract surgery procedures and cared for his many patients in a busy practice. He also spent many years training the residents at the Manhattan Eye and Ear Infirmary in both medical and surgical ophthalmology.
Dr Gerstenfeld is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a long time member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. After a long and distinguished surgical career Dr Gerstenfeld will specialize in the evaluation and treatment of glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration and dry eye disease. He is a recent transplant to Bergen county and looks forward to taking care of his patients at Metro Eye Care with the same care and compassion developed over decades of practice in ophthalmology.
